Tree Spirit Art Dolls    In this workshop we will construct art doll sculptures, with the tree spirit as the theme. Using clay faces, found materials, and mixed media, such as beads, cloth and paints, each person will create a sculpture that has special meaning and is a unique personal expression. We will explore personal symbolism and motifs as the dolls are constructed, incorporating individuality into the finished product. No experience necessary. Students should bring whatever materials might be useful such as fabric, embellishments such as beads, ribbon, shells, stones or feathers. Ages 12+       July 21, 9:00-12   $28

The ART of Felt Making   After an overview of the history of wool and its uses, we will learn the many ways to work with fleece and needle felting to create functional and decorative works of art. Students will create a sampler of different methods, then a colored wool landscape to utilize the techniques learned, as well as several other projects. No experience necessary. All materials provided, but bring fleece or other needle felting tools if you have them. Ages 12 +

The Art of Hand-made Tile    Learn the art of creating hand-made tiles! We will explore the many design and decoration options available, such as carving, using slips and stains, and creating unique textures. The class will cover creating, handling, proper drying techniques, and firing methods. You will create several tiles that can be hung on a wall, to be picked up later after the tiles are fired. No experience necessary. Ages 15 and up

Fairy and Toad Houses   Learn to create garden houses in clay for toads and fairies! We’ll provide all you need for creating hideouts for garden friends. You can embellish and decorate to make your houses uniquely yours! Ages 8 and up, suitable for all ages!  July 24, 9-11:30   $25, also offered July 29th, 9-11:30

 Building Boats in Clay

August 14th and 15th, 10-4:00, Woods Hall Craft Shop Pottery Room

A hands-on workshop exploring the history of boats and Madeline Island

Join us for an artist/community collaboration at Woods Hall Pottery Shop. Artist Joan Slack will be offering a 2 day free workshop which will explore how unique boats shaped the history of Madeline Island. Try your hand at sculpting a clay vessel, adding design elements and creating imaginative figures to go inside! Finished boats will be displayed in the community. A special option to make your own small boat is also available for $15. Open to all ages. Come join us for an hour or a day! Call Joan at 715-550-0858 with questions.
